Yesterday a Twitter user calling herself “BLACKLIVESMATTER @bebedeazucarrr” (i.e. “Sugar Baby”) published a photograph of St. Anne Catholic Church in San Diego run by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, with words calling for a protest against them. The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter (FSSP) is a clerical Society of Apostolic Life of Pontifical Right, canonically erected by Pope St. John Paul II in 1988.
The image, which appeared to have originally been shared on an Instagram story, had the following message: “St. Anne’s doesn’t think Black Lives Matter and are staunch Trump supporters. These are white people who bought out the church from a Mexican family. I would like to see if we can organize a group to protest here ASAP.”
This accusation was followed by the church’s address and the following allegation regarding the fact that the Church continued their services despite the lockdown: “Also they don’t believe coronavirus and have been congregating since the beginning of the Stay @ home orders.”
The BLM Twitter-user seems to incite residents of the neighborhood against the Catholic Church in question by adding her own comment, “Logan Heights!!!!” and now the pastor and parishioners of St. Anne Catholic Church in San Diego are concerned that a violent protest driven by BLM could indeed appear outside their place of worship. However, Father John Lyons, FSSP, told parishioners in an email, that the parish administrators had already contacted the local police and said that they will “intervene if necessary.” He asked that nobody take any other action “on his own initiative,” saying that this would “most likely only make matters worse.”
Let’s remember only a few days ago a BLM spokesperson called for statues of “white Jesus”to be destroyed, as mobs of organized and well-funded protest groups are starting to appear in cities and towns all across America. Churches of all denominations, not only Catholic ones, will need to be ready to protect the images and symbols of the Christian Faith from the destruction and looting of the leftist mob.
