Bishops not obliged to report clerical child abuse in Italy and other countries brings disappointment to the Vatican summit

The unprecedented summit in Rome to confront the Catholic Church’s clergy abuse ends today, and is already disappointing many, after not all the dioceses  and Catholic episcopal conferences, including the Italian one (the CEI), want to accept point 5 of the 21 “Reflection Points” issued by Pope Francis:

 “Inform the civil authorities and the higher ecclesiastical authorities in compliance with civil and canonical norms.”

 

This means that in some countries Catholic bishops will still be allowed to cover-up the Catholic Church pedophile rings and will not be obliged to report clerical child abuse to the civil authorities. This means, of course, that the Vatican is still helping the abusers to continue untouched in their criminal ways, especially in countries like Italy where the majority of high level Vatican officials operate and reside.
