Article by Leo Zagami
Early speculative Freemason and founding fellow of the Royal Society, Elias Ashmole, was an ardent astrologer and it is incontestable that the early speculative lodges of Accepted Masons (i.e., those who were not actual stonemasons) in the 17th century, were populated by astrologers,[1] who royalty has always favored. Even Jeffrey Epstein’s twisted “Pedophile Island’’ of Little Saint James and his mysterious “temple,” based on the style of a popular bathhouse in Aleppo, Syria, used by Sabbatean crypto-Jews during the Ottoman Empire, as I explained in my latest book, The Rise and Fall of a Frankist Monster: Exposing Jeffrey Epstein and The Most Powerful Jewish Sect in the World, had an elaborate ceiling mural depicting signs of the zodiac.
The New York Post reported this on December 22, 2025, when they wrote:“Sicko financier Jeffrey Epstein’s twisted ‘Pedophile Island’ included an unnerving ‘temple’-like building featuring an elaborate ceiling mural depicting signs of the zodiac and a pair of ratty mattresses. […] The cube-like building, adorned in Grecian-style blue-and-white stripes, was erected at the highest point of his sprawling private enclave in the US Virgin Islands, flanked by palm trees and positioned overlooking the sea on a two-tier stone terrace decorated with bold pink geometric shapes.”

Now, astronomy and astrology are the foundations behind many religious teachings of today, but there is much more to Epstein’s seemingly “weird” astrological reference in his temple. Many traditional Jewish Kabbalists believe in a form of astrology known as Mazzaroth or Mazalot, which means viewing the stars and zodiac signs as spiritual channels that transmit divine energy. Both terms refer to celestial bodies or constellations, though they appear in different biblical contexts and have distinct historical usage. Mazzaroth (מַזָּרוֹת) appears only once in the Bible (Job 38: 32) and is generally interpreted as referring to constellations or the zodiac signs. Mazalot (מַזָּלוֹת), also spelled mazzarot or mazzalot—which appears in 2 Kings (23: 5), and is widely understood in Jewish tradition to refer to the twelve signs of the zodiac or planets.
However, Jewish interpretations differ from predictive, fatalistic astrology, as Kabbalah teaches, that spiritual actions such as prayer, charity, and Torah study can allow a person to transcend their Mazal (“constellation”) influence. Since ancient times, the Mazalot have been viewed as intermediaries in the cosmic order, each associated with a specific Hebrew month, a tribe of Israel, and distinct spiritual qualities.
The Talmudic teaching ein mazal l’Yisrael (Shabbat 156a) clarifies that while astrological signs may provide a “map” or incline a person toward certain traits, they do not dictate destiny. Jewish scholars such as Rashi and the Ramban explained that divine providence and human free will supersede the influence of the stars. Nevertheless, the term Mazal Tov that gained widespread cultural use in Hebrew, meaning “good fortune” or “good sign,” originates in astrology, and a zodiac wheel consisting of two concentric circles, with the twelve zodiac signs appearing in the outer circle, and Helios, the Greco-Roman sun god, appearing in the inner circle in the ancient former-Jewish synagogue of Beth Alpha, located at the foot of the northern slopes of the Gilboa mountains near Beit She’an, in the Northern District of Israel, along with other similar examples found in contemporaneous synagogues throughout Israel such as Naaran, Susiya, Hamat Tiberias, Huseifa, and Sepphoris, still rest at the center of a scholarly debate regarding the true relationship and influence between Judaism and general Greco-Roman culture in late-antiquity,[2] that is obviously referenced in Jeffrey Epstein’s Little Saint James’ temple. That’s because the Sabbatian and Frankist movements within Judaism also incorporate forms of astrology, including the concept of Mazzaroth and astrological symbolism, as part of their mystical and often antinomian practices, which I’ve outlined in The Rise and Fall of a Frankist Monster.
However, while traditional Judaism often cautions against astrology, the Sabbatians utilized it to interpret the times, the divine, and the coming of their messiah, Sabbatai Zevi. Afterward, the Frankists used astrological symbolism not only to define their leader, but also to describe the journey of Jacob and his followers’ through “the abyss” to redemption, as part of their “redemption through sin” philosophy originally at the heart of the Sabbatian movement.
After all, Zevi’s name was linked to the planet Saturn (Shabbatai in Hebrew), whose connection with Satan is well known and rooted in occult symbolism, astrotheology, and Gnostic belief systems. But there is also another interesting point made by the esoteric and alternative researcher B.R. Taylor, author of Metaphysics of the Gods, who says that as we enter this new Age of Aquarius, the shared rulership of Saturn and Uranus would create a whole new array of energy vibrations influencing our consciousness. “This would set the scene for a very interesting future,” claims Taylor “and anyone aligning themselves with the energetic characteristics of Saturn, would inevitably control the reins of power” in what he defines as “The Saturnisation of humanity.”
For the Illuminati and certain occult Freemasons involved in esoteric, mystical, or magical traditions linked to the Sabbatian Frankists, Judaism grew out of star-worshipping cults in the area known as Canaan, to become one of the first groups to focus their attention on Saturn. As we progressed through the Age of Pisces Christians adopted Jupiter, the planet of faith, optimism, and good fortune, while Islam chose Venus. As these different groups drifted away from a balanced polytheistic approach to star worship, each promoting their tradition as superior, tensions grew between opposing factions, setting the stage for future division. Over the centuries, controlling elites have used this division as a mechanism to steer all concerned towards a greater centralization of power. As Saturn is the planet associated with control, those idolizing its energetic frequencies are set to become masters over the rest.
In Jewish tradition, the “reign of Saturn,” is also indicated as the highest planet, and for this reason is frequently associated with the arrival of the Messiah, and Zevi’s birth on Tisha B’Av (the 9th of Av,) which was viewed by his heretical followers as a significant astrological and historical sign of his perceived redemptive role. While Jacob Frank’s later teachings (recorded circa 1784–1790) blended the antinomianism of the Sabbatian legacy with Western Esotericism and astrology that included the use of magic, the study of immortal beings, and positioning himself and his “Holy Virgin” consort within a syncretic myth that utilized Kabbalistic and astrological symbols to signify worldly power and physical transformation. Out of these Sabbatian Frankists astrological beliefs came out not only Epstein’s obsession for the Zodiac, but also the obsession of those who preceded him in the New York elite, that built the little known Zodiac Club, an exclusive 158-year-old secret society based in New York City, made up of only 12 members at the time that counted amongst its past members, J.P. Morgan (John Pierpont Morgan Sr.) and J.P. Morgan Jr. (John Pierpont Morgan Jr., also known as “Jack,” who were both known in the Zodiac Club as “Brother Libra.”
Somewhere in J.P. Morgan’s Madison Ave Library lie two books entitled Records of the Zodiac where you can find minutes, menus, and 158-year-old secrets of this secret society founded in 1868, bound in leather.[3] I found an article referencing a writer from The Gothamist in 2013, who was able to schedule a rare glimpse into the hidden volumes of the Records of the Zodiac with William Voelkle, the museum curator, to try and discover what goes on inside. In a book by Stephen Birmingham published in 1987, America’s Secret Aristocracy, it claims that J.P. Morgan founded The Zodiac Club in the 1900s, but in the hidden volumes, it states it was a certain Edward Elmer Potter, a native New Yorker born June 21st, 1823, the real founder of The Zodiac Club in 1868. Potter was a Columbia College graduate, known for his very successful Union campaign in North Carolina during the Civil War, known as “Potter’s Raid.”
Even though it seems the club loved to share stories and reaffirm their social standings in Gilded Society, I sadly found no mention or evidence as to why Potter started The Zodiac Club amongst the scarce material available on it. However, there is book entitled, The Age of Innocence, written by Edith Wharton, which apparently enraged the members of The Zodiac Club back in 1921, as they accused the author of betraying their social class by disclosing knowledge of their society. In the account of the secret society, Frank K. Sturgis, former president of the New York Stock Exchange, known as Brother Cancer, was particularly vocal in his disdain for Wharton’s portrayal of New York’s elite in the 1870s. He argued that society during that era was refined, intelligent, and self-respecting, and he criticized Wharton for diminishing the reputation of a world in which her own family had played a prominent role. His remarks were recorded in the minutes, reflecting the indignation felt by the members.
The story continues that after voicing his criticisms of The Age of Innocence, Brother Cancer began to share detailed recollections of the financial and social histories of various New York families. He discussed both the esteemed alliances and the scandalous mésalliances that had shaped the city’s upper class. But it was there, in that moment of passion and joy, that the men realized despite sharing and documenting their stories which would surely provide a fascinating resource for future generations, to keep with The Zodiac Club’s secret nature – they decided that much of what they discussed, outside of what should never be written, should also remain unwritten. That’s why a (unidentified/redacted) member of this exclusive secret society known as The Zodiac Club writes to Jeffrey Epstein, in a email found in the last batch of the Epstein files (EFTA02407780.pdf), sent to him (using his known email address, jeevacation@gmail.com) on August 6, 2010, with the proposal for a new member to the club, claiming that the Zodiac “is still very secret” and “it’s one of those last secret type societies.”

No wonder the statement “Millionaires don’t use astrology, billionaires do,” is attributed to J. P. Morgan,[4] a member of this secret society fixated with astrology, and while The Zodiac Club remains an enigma to most people and stands as one of New York City’s oldest and most mysterious elite societies, it continues its legacy in secret, quiet exclusivity.
In the email to Epstein the mysterious author talks about “Bob Pirie and I” and the late Robert Pirie (1934 – 2015),[5]who is indicated as “a recent Zodiac Club member, lawyer, book collector, and president of Rothschild Inc.,” in an article published on Coding Astrology in 2025,[6] stated once that the Zodiac Club was “never secret, only private” and will remain intact, secretly meeting for dinners every last Saturday for as long as it seems relevant.

Well, their decisions, made behind closed doors, still seem relevant, as in the recent Epstein files, we also find his correspondence concerning the Institute for Works of Religion (IOR), commonly called the Vatican Bank, that touches on something very important for JPMorgan Chase at the time. In a 2013 email to Larry Summers, Epstein suggested that leadership changes at the IOR were more significant than Pope Benedict XVI’s resignation, and in fact one-year earlier, JPMorgan Chase, whose leadership is obviously tied to the Zodiac Club, closed its Vatican Bank’s (Institute for the Works of Religion, or IOR) account at its Milan branch.[7] The bank took this action due to concerns over a lack of transparency regarding money transfers and to mitigate risks related to international anti-money laundering standards.
Prior to the closure, the Vatican Bank had already faced multiple investigations and scandals. For instance, in 2010, Italian magistrates seized $30 million from Vatican accounts, including funds held at a JPMorgan branch in Frankfurt, as part of a money-laundering investigation. The historical link between the Zodiac Club and the Vatican was forged almost one hundred years ago when Bernardino Nogara (1870 – 1958), tasked with managing the Holy See’s assets following the 1929 Lateran Treaty, strategically diversified the Vatican’s wealth to protect it from economic volatility.

As part of this diversification, he utilized international holdings, including gold and diverse securities, maintaining significant financial relationships with institutions like J.P. Morgan in New York, where thanks to the Zodiac Club he deposited and traded various stocks, bonds, and assets to preserve and grow the church’s capital, until things got messy with the now-former Vatican Bank President Ettore Gotti Tedeschi whose main task was to introduce an anti-money-laundering law in the Vatican. So, Jeffrey Epstein’s interest in the matter, occurred while the Vatican was working to improve its financial reputation and meet requirements for Europe’s “white list” of compliant financial jurisdictions, but as I wrote in my previous article it was not the only interest of Epstein in the Vatican.
