The Pachamama controversy that I reported in extensively last year, has aroused intense controversy among traditionalist and conservative Catholics as the presence of pagan statues at the Vatican as quasi-demonic symbols of pagan idolatry has become much worse.

However, from the faces, albeit obsequiously covered by masks, of the elderly Neapolitan women present in the Cathedral of Naples, there is a certain sense of bewilderment and uncertainty for such nonsense. Viewing them as bizarre, the pious Neapolitan women will have thought that the world has really changed after the pandemic, for even in the Church of Naples, Jesus is becoming a stranger.
